Life in the 1950"s
Life 60 years ago was much, much different. Color television was just being developed, the Atom bomb was first tested, and the civil rights movement was taking place. Some may say it was a good decade, well with the first 3-D movie coming out and the microchip being developed, I would agree. Although, there were some negative things happening too. Like the segregation of African-Americans, and all the wars that the United States were recovering from. People living in the 50's were scared, so much had happened in that decade alone, they didn't know what was next. Robots? Hover-cars? Everyone was trying to figure out the future. People were afraid of being afraid. They wanted to live in a perfect world, where everything was well... perfect, a utopia if you must. Many of the homes in the fifties looked alike, so did the people, and even the cars. There was not much violence in house holds, children respected and loved adults, unlike today were kids and parents fight all the time. Life was very different back then, whether it's better now or it was better then, well that's for you to decide.
Cars had just come into play in the 50's. They had been around for almost 30 years but no one could really afford to have one. In the 50's more and more families started owning cars. A very popular car back then was the 1950 Volkswagon Beetle. Today we see it as a sort of lemon car, or a beater. Back then it was the cream of the crop, everyone wanted and had one. Don't get me wrong these weren't the only things flying down the street but they were very common. Trains and buses were used for those that did not own a car, they both are still used today.
