Was Ray Right About The Future?
Fahrenheit 451 was first written in 1953, technology was just becoming a big thing. The microchip had just come out, and same with color television. The world was changing, and Bradbury wanted to have his say in it. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury includes some of his predictions of the future. Back then there were televisions only about 20 inches at the most, in the novel he talks about TV's the take up a whole wall, which there are now. Now a days, just about every middle class american home has a 50 inch TV or bigger. I've got a 90 inch TV in my living room, and it pretty much takes up the whole wall. Back then billboards were about 20 feet long, in the novel Bradbury talks about how the billboards will grow to be 200 feet long. They billboards are still about twenty feet long. Another thing Ray talks about is the robotic mechanical hound. Back then the microchip had just come out, robotics had just come into the minds of Americans. We
do have robots today, like robotic toys, drone aircrafts, and there is even a robot competition that takes place every year.
In conclusion, Ray Bradbury was mainly right about the future. There are robots, the TV's have grown immensely, and he was even right about books. Less and less people read books, no one really burns them, and its not illeagl to have books, but ever since the TV has come out and movies are present no one wants to read anymore. He wasn't completely right down to the last little detail, for instance the billboards aren't 200 feet long and its not illegal to be a pedestrian, but he did get the earpieces right, and he even predicted blue-tooth capablitity. All in all, Ray was right, I dont know how he did it, but he was right...
